Why should I consider therapy? Why can't I just talk to my friends?

It is amazing that you have friends that you can trust, however, it is great to have a licensed professional counselor with a trained ear, who can help guide you to mental health and healing. At First Position Therapy & Counseling Center, LLC, you are met where you are. That means that therapy is provided without judgment but with unconditional positive regard. The best is sought for you, and with you. Evidenced based practices are used to support you/ your child/ your family on your counseling journey.

Is therapy expensive?

Therapy is an investment into yourself! Just as you may work out, refine your diet, or visit your doctor for check ups,  therapy is a necessary process for tending to your mental health. At First Position Therapy & Counseling Center, the full rate is posted on our page, however, sliding scale is available upon request, with a consultation.

What happens in a therapy session & what is the first session like?

Therapy is divided into 3 parts: Intake & Assessment, Treatment Plan Creation,  & finally, where we do the work- Counseling. In your first session, we will briefly talk about what brought you into therapy, what to expect for therapy, and your therapist will get to know you and your personal history. In your second session, you and your therapist will go over a plan for your counseling- this helps you to know what to expect and to participate in the goals that WE set for you. Next, we will get to the fun part, the counseling!

Why seek therapy from a Licensed Professional Counselor?

A Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) is trained through a minimum of 4 undergraduate years (or undergraduate degree), 2 graduate years (or graduate degree) with a passing completion of a Comprehension Exam, practicum, internship, successfully passing a national counselors exam, and supervised counseling experience to obtain a license. An LPC is trained in several modes of intervention and counseling to best support the client. An LPC is trained to support you to develop goals to achieve the healthiest mental health possible, so long as you are a willing participant!

Does Counseling/ Therapy last forever?

Therapy lasts as long as the client is in need of services & support. The goal is get the client to realize & own their strengths. The therapist/ professional counselors role is to work themselves out of a job, by providing stellar, evidenced based therapeutic intervention to the client.
